Mindfulness as Pedagogical Practice
Background: What if much of our educational practice has been centered on the wrong premise? That’s the inquiry that our Founder, Dr. Nathan Smalley, explored in his dissertation, Teaching in Flux: Mindfulness and Conditionality in Pedagogical Practice. Building on his research base, we’re exploring the possibility of reprising the premise of education, and focusing in practices that emphasize process and inquiry, rather than measurement and control.
Purpose: To formalize a set of insights for shifting the premise of education and its attending practices away from the industrialized ideas of sorting and qualification, and toward process awareness and skill.
Participants: Teachers from a range of traditional and charter public schools.
